Baking, baking… erev Shabbos yummy treats!

shabbos 001

Clockwise from bottom left:  lemon-blueberry upside-down cake (from Epicurious via couldntbepareve.com – I made it with butter but despite it being the most delectable cake batter I have ever tasted, cannot say that I love the cake itself :-(), carrot cake with tofutti “better than cream cheese” frosting, easy potato kugel (4 potatoes, 2 carrots, 1 onion, 2 eggs, 2 tbsp flour, 2 tbsp oil, season to taste, bake @ 350 1 hour), no-knead challahs.

I must be spoiled or something after last week’s repeat of Chavi’s challot, because these did not taste as sweet as I’m used to.  Or perhaps it’s because I used pure organic cane sugar instead?  Weird.

So all in all not our best Baking Shabbos.  On the other hand, no mix cakes, no mix cookies, no shortcut baking – yay!
